Their line of thinking is probably that it affected independents and newly registered Democrats -- groups that would skew Sanders -- who needed to register in order to vote (because Arizona is a closed primary) who are relatively unfamiliar with the voting process.
I do not think there is any hard evidence, though. That would be very difficult to obtain. (though there are plenty of anecdotes in various places online)
