You know for the last couple weeks there was this song on the radio that kept coming on and I didn't know who it was from but I consistently cringed every time it played. Today I finally figured out who it was. Song is trash

Totally different sales climates. Almost incomparable.

While true to an extent, Adele just got the biggest debut ever digitally. People will buy music if they feel it's worth it. There is no excuse for Ariana going from 400k to 100k in the span of 1 year.

Have any ideas where Iggys Team will debut? Obviously not that high with no official video or radio deal.

But Adele is an extreme case. She's an outlier. It's not fair to single out Ariana and compare her to Adele. And Problem was released 2 years ago not 1.

NO is easily going Top 10 next week, and Top 5 the week after. I think it will reach #1 by its 6th or 7th charting week (4 or 5 weeks from now). Until then, I think Work is going to hold off 7 Years, and spend a grand total of 9 or 10 weeks at #1.

That's really just an excuse. If the music were good enough, people other than the super-fans would buy it. That's not just for Ariana either.

I see your point I just think it's unfair to compare her to Adele. I agree with fridayteenage that if anything she should be compared to Zayn, Kelly, Drake, etc in which case yes I'll admit she fell a little flat. But the song still has tons of room to grow.

I think it's actually obvious more than anything the decline from Problem wasn't due to the sales decline, the Donut incident, or any of that. Problem was just a one time thing where everything lined up amazing. I think even if she released a single a week later it would've struggled to half of Problem's first week.
Look at Break Free and Bang Bang. Break Free only did 161,000 following Problem doing 438,000.
The best example is Bang Bang. It also got an hourly radio deal, was a collab with another huge star, and it was much more hyped yet it did 230,000 — barely half of Problem's first week sales.
She clearly didn't lose any massive amount of fans, power, hype in just a few weeks later. Problem was simply a weird outlier in her entire career. Even My Everything opened with under 175K first week, like nothing she's ever done since Problem or before has been able to come close to what it did. There was clearly just something in the water for her the week she released it, and everything went golden.
If you compare all her other non-Problem debuts (The Way, Break Free, Bang Bang) which all did 150-230K and account the digital decline then compare to Focus / Dangerous Woman she isn't really declining badly.
