Yea, everybody hates Chris Brown for what he did to America’s sweetheart
|
I'm honestly shocked that Chris even made your list ... let alone top 10
'Graffiti' is an amazing album & I agree that it's his best. It's a shame that some ppl can't seperate the personal from the professional though
Oh and I love 'She Wolf' too<333.

I almost listened to Chris' album, but I previewed it and wasn't that amazed. But your review of the albums makes me regret that decision lol!

Reeces' Best Of '09: Top 30 Albums (04-03)

04. John Mayer “Battle Studies”
Standout Tracks: 'Perfectly Lonely', 'Who Says', 'Friends, Lovers, Or Nothing', 'Half Of My Heart', 'Heartbreak Warfare', 'Assasin', 'Edge Of Desire'
Battle Studies totally came to me as a huge surprise, I didn’t expect to enjoy it so much. I’ve always enjoyed John Mayer’s music but I never liked him enough to listen to a full album, but for some unknown reason I gave this a chance and found out how amazing his music really is. The album is musically and lyrically perfect, every song tells a different story and sound completely different from one another. ‘Heartbreak Warfare’ starts the album with the right foot, it’s a matter of seconds before you get into this simple but fantastic track. Sad song ‘All We Ever Do Is Say Goodbye’ has a beautiful guitar acoustic arrangement and his voice couldn’t sound better. Taylor Swift adds background vocals to the country influenced, ‘Half Of My Heart’, but Mayer remains the main attraction here. Lead single ‘Who Says’ is catchy is different, while the bluesy and intimate ‘Perfectly Lonely’ puts the album in a whole different level. The brilliant ‘Assassin’ showcases John’s songwriting skills with lyrics like ‘I’m an assassin and I have a job to do, little did I know that girl was an assassin too’, just a perfect song. ‘Crossroads’ adds a more fun vibe to the album with a guitar solo in the middle, while the personal ‘Edge Of Desire’ shows a more vulnerable and dependant side. ‘War Of My Life’ and ‘Do You Know Me’ don’t stand out so much, but each bring something different to the record and tell a relatable story. The album ends perfectly with the ultimatum song ‘Friends, Lovers, Or Nothing’, he sounds excellent, the arrangement is just perfect and the lyrics are just breathtaking. Overall, Battle Studies is a very intimate record filled with heartbreak and love songs, it’s just a piece of art, I think that’s the best way to describe it.

03. Ciara “Fantasy Ride”
Standout Tracks: 'Pucker Up', 'I Don't Remember', 'Love, Sex, Magic', 'Turntables', 'Like a Surgeon', 'Lover's Thing', 'Never Ever'
It’s really sad when an artist delivers one of their best projects and it gets ignored by people, but whatever it is their loss. I have always loved Ciara and considered her one of the most important talents of this generation and with Fantasy Ride she puts many of the most successful female acts to shame and proves my point. Ciara does what she does best in this album, nails the slow songs and goes hard in the club jams. ‘Ciara To The Stage’ serves as an intro and a full song at the same time, it definitely sets the mood for the rest of the album. Collaboration with pop royalty Justin Timberlake comes right after and magic happens immediately, one of the best collaborations of the year. She flirts with her soprano register in ‘High Price’ and Ludacris puts the nail in the coffin, took time to grow but I learned to love it with every listen. ‘Turntables’ featuring Chris Brown was a hit waiting to happen, but for obvious reason the smart choice was to never release it. ‘Like A Surgeon’ is the perfect R&B song with the hospital metaphors that make this track even more interesting. ‘Never Ever’ has an unforgettable hook and her voice carries the song perfectly, while the collaboration with The-Dream, ‘Lover’s Thing’, adds more feeling and depth to the album, they surprisingly sound great together as well. ‘Work’ is a party starter and ‘Pucker Up’ is just one of the greatest non-singles of the year as she invites you to kiss her swag; she needs to do more of this pop stuff in the future. ‘G Is For Girl’ is clever and grabs your attention immediately, while ‘Keep Dancin’ On Me’ is a grower, but when it does, it’s unstoppable. ‘Tell Me What Your Name Is’ is a cute song and the album ends with the mysterious morning after ’I Don’t Remember’, I still can’t figure out what they did to her in that bar. Fantasy Ride puts Ciara in a new different level musically, without a doubt one of the best records of the year.
