Just watched Cloverfield (the original) for the first time and I didn't really "get" it. To me it was just another disaster/monster movie. There was nothing special. No twist as to the monster's origin/motive, nothing with the government, no interesting/crazy explanation. And there was nothing special about the characters either. In fact, the main dude was annoying and Beth was absolutely pathetic.
There was nothing WRONG with it, but I don't get why it's held in such high esteem. It was just fine.

I've always said that. I was surprised so many were excited for a sequel, the first film is kind of just there for me.

Rico, you know how they said the movie had no monsters etc before It was 10 clvfld lane do you think they added the ending to this one to somehow tie it?

Definitely. The Reddit post and all the screener comments from last year detailed everything in the film, except the final sequence. I think either they did additional shooting after the test screens or they simply left out all of the last 30 minutes or so, to cloak the fact it was tied to Cloverfield. The latter is more likely, though it's certainly possible they brought MEW back in production. Either way, I enjoyed what they did. Only complaint would be how easily she got through that, but it was exciting.
