Late 90's/Early 2000's was the best time for music, but it was the worst time for movies. All of those god-awful rom coms, Disney sequels, teen dramas, apocalypse movies, old cartoon adaptations, horror movie remakes, etc. being released every week were beyond insufferable.
Just a terrible time for Hollywood (unless you were a Godney stan of course).
The first one was absolute trash and didn't even do that great, why bother? The only thing it was useful for was Can't Fight the Moonlight (or was that Coyote Ugly? Idk, but they're all awful).
The first one was good (and it earned Golden Globe/Oscar nominations) and it was a smash. Made over ten times its budget - nearly $300m.
The followup was huge, too, even though it was terrible.

Whoops, I actually did mix it up with Coyote Ugly. Just watched that a few weeks ago and the only thing I remember it was the person I was watching it with pronounced it as "KAHY-OHTE" Ugly.
I think I watched Bridget Jones Diary on a plane once. Some British bitch in NY who falls in love and writes in her diary about the guy and then ends up getting him in the end, right? Meh.
Do people here really dislike Dangerous Woman (the song)? I can understand hating the terrible single cover but the song is really good. It's not going #1 or anything unless something crazy happens but I do see it staying in the top if she plays her cards right.

Late 90s-early 00s did have good movies. Hollywood then > now. The only thing that is much better now than in the late 90s-early 00s is TV shows. There is much better writing in shows than movies now.
