Ofc, I've been doing this since like 2005 lol.
Anyway, if I'll have the possibility, I'd love to produce a western idol group in the future

That's the point. But I don't get why, seriously.

xenophobia and racism against asians, it has become the norm in america
and people like to pretend to be above the ~trainee thing and see kpop as manufactured, soulless music

Oh i see. I agree, i think Disney still tries to make "Idol Groups" with things like High School Musical and Violetta. They are meant to become role models, sing and dance so i guess they apply. But yeah, there aren't much of them making it big in the West outside of Disney!

Absolutely agree on everything. It's funny when the truth is that most of the times asian artists make better music compared to western artists, their productions are simply superior on almost every aspect, the MVs alone >>>>>>>>>>>

Disney doesn't really make idol groups imo, BUT they do create some TV Series with an "idol" theme, eg. Hannah Montana / Violetta. It would be nice to see idols here in the west anyway, people complain about little girls following "wrong models" but in reality, there aren't many "good models" imo and some idol groups could represent those.

I feel like Hannah Montana/Katy Perry is as close to an idol as we've gotten the past few years. And maybe some of the other teen stars.
I'm sure cultural differences play the biggest role. The cutesy thing doesn't really work to that extreme in the US. You're just labeled as appealing only to little girls. I mean, look at what this site's members (mostly westerners) say about Katy's demographic all the time. "only kids stan for her" yada yada.

I know what you mean, that's why I said "asian artists" haha
You can take idol music, pop music, hip hop music, electronic music, their production is most likely going to be superior if compared to most of western productions.
- The training
- The visuals
- The choreographies
- The music
Western artists almost don't dance anymore, only a few of them

I completely agree with you, especially as far as choreography goes

Bieber, 1D, 5h, and Little Mix are idol groups in everything but name. Black Magic and Sledgehammer could be easily sung by a J-pop girl group

I think it's the same here in Europe, and especially here in Italy, where we basically never had an idol group. I think the closest example is "Non È La Rai" a 90s TV Show

I know! I know! It's funny tho, we used to have so many artists who had choreographies in their videos back in the 90s-early 00s

In Japanese pop culture, an idol (アイドル aidoru?, a Japanese rendering of the English word "idol") is a young trained star/starlet marketed as someone to be admired, usually for their cuteness. Idols are intended to be role models. They are supposed to have a good public image and be good examples to young people. Idols aim to play a wide range of roles as media personalities (tarento), e.g. pop singers, panelists of variety programs, bit-part actors, models for magazines and advertisements

Now that i've been thinking, i think it has a lot to do with Western culture. As i said before, Disney is the closest we have to an Idol-Factory, and look at how much most of Disney's artist struggle to make it into the mainstream once their show ends.
You also see how a lot of Disney stars try to pretend they were never in Disney once they want to go mainstream.
I mean, if you think about it, Disney stars are often treated as "manufactured" and "not to be taken seriously" by the public, which is the main thing going against Idol Groups happening in Western Culture too!
