actually, this isn't true. america did horrible damage to argentina in the late 1900s. for a very condensed version: during the cold war the american government hated the idea of socialism gaining power in the west so much that they (often behind the backs of the american public) instilled and supported violent dictators in countries like chile just so a strong government could keep socialists out. these governments killed thousands of people and stayed in place for a long time. it's really terrible, honestly.
