Sam Smith is allowed to adopt a new viewpoint. Perhaps he was uncomfortable with his new fame & celebrity at first, but the fact that he is more comfortable addressing and advocating for the LGBT community is a plus for all gays.
I mean I don't get it, it's not like he NEEDS to address these issues, he should be able to go on his merry way without ever mentioning LGBT issues. The fact that he does is, as you've said, a plus.
