The songs flopped and didn't even chart on the billboard hot 100 in 2006. The songs were great and very vanessa carlton 2002 esque. What I enjoy about this album the most is that Gaga really hustled and toured around new york city to be known. She toured from bars, clubs, and lounges all over manhattan, the bronx, bedford stuyvesant housing projects, and other mean streets of brooklyn. She was broke as hell during this era and once the tour ended she got dropped from Def Jam.
This is where it gets depressing.
Gaga had to continue living in her studio apartment in the lower east side infested with pregnant cockroaches. Gaga once said that while she was cooking spaghetti and meatballs in her apartment, a huge pregnant water bug fell onto the tomato pot that was boiling and she screamed. She was on a low budget, had to eat ramen noodle soup for days and reuse her tampons all because the GP didn't appreciate the soulful songs on Red & Blue. Thankfully Interscope signed her and released The Fame.

Stop victim-blaming and stop being rape apologists. Lady Gaga did not deserve to go through all that. It's taken a toll on her and she is only now recovering. She referenced this horrific experience in many of her songs, videos and performances before she spoke about it for the first time in 2014 (having opened up in the heat of the moment during a tell-all interview with Howard Stern). She was very uncomfortable talking about it.
