I think Max's work with Shellback has a pop-ier sound (see 1989, "3," "Problem," "Run Away With Me," etc.) while Max's work with Ali Payami has a grittier, darker pop sound ("Love Me Harder," "Cool for the Summer," "Can't Feel My Face," "In the Night," etc.). I'd be fine with either, but I think the Max & Ali Payami pairing seems to fit the direction she is going with this album better. Ilya's stuff is mostly lackluster ("First Love," "Confident," "Bad Blood," etc.), so I just hope she didn't work with him.
