Madonna is Italian and born Catholic, so obviously having such resistance for years by the Vatican and having a very disapproving, religious father is way more personal. She was on the right side of history anyway. The Catholic Church finally admitted they have closeted homosexuals in the Church and that birth control is not as evil as they thought.

Bieber remains a grammy winning icon with 3 #1 hits to his credit.

Stop trying to distract the conversation because I'm dismantling the Madonna myths

The point is: Gaga's perspective on the gay rights movement of this generation was much less about her than the one Madonna made back in the 1990s. Like you said, it was all about her own Catholic upbringing and her own struggle. She took the gayness and used it as shock factor to conservative america. Not evil but definitely not genuine.
