Always subjective. If you enjoy something more, then to you it is better.
The problem is all the outside factors that affect your judgment. If you feel embarrassed about enjoying a song, that negative feeling will creep into your overall enjoyment. A lot of people don't want to be caught listening to weird music, or generic music, or other music they feel is beneath them. So they genuinely perceive this music as worse, simply because of peer pressure and their desire to conform.
Professional critics suffer from this as well because they need to write articles and give ratings that are "acceptable" within the community. This will always cloud their true opinion. Not to mention the fact that they have to produce the review very quickly, and they often start writing before they are even done with their first listen.
