Occasional disaster relief is donations, it is not philanthropy- which is a long-lasting commitment to fighting a particular issue. We will see how long they will help with BLM. Maybe I will be proven wrong. To me, it seems like Beyonce looks at what is trendy to advocate for before putting her voice in the mix. Feminism became en vogue, so she started claiming the word. People like Kendrick, J. Cole, Jidenna, DAngelo, Janelle Monae are making waves with political music in the alt. R&B and hip hop world, so she decides she wants to jump on the bandwagon too. I think her silence is working against her when it comes to social activism. I can't recall her ever articulating her thoughts about the subject. It's all images, catchphrases and photo-ops. That worked well to build her brand, but it's also very fake and superficial. It makes her life seem like a fantasy, a dream. So now when she uses the same strategy to advance her social activism, it still seems very fake and superficial. People aren't buying it. The conversation then turns to her intentions and her gall, and the real issues get buried.
