People who use Hot 100 receipts from 1999-2005 to "prove" how big a song was probably don't remember how it was compiled back then. Actually, singles charts around the world were a huge mess. How do you make a singles chart when there are no single sales?
I heard myths that singles were sold on CDs with just one song on it and maybe a remix back then.
I've never seen one in real life, though. I heard they just counted those as the single sales.
