Yes, because the first thing people do before buying pop songs is make sure to check out the parent album so it doesn't have an r&b songs. If so then the status of an r&b artist is verified and pop songs are ignored.
The way the Hive think the general public truly sees their fave above the ilk of the other Pop girls as a whole. He sells sex, he prances around in skimpy outfits, he releases songs they consider Pop garbage, he isn't viewed as anything different.
They may or may not acknowledge that he can actually sing, but that doesn't affect his output.

I think the main difference is their levels of awareness of their situations. Britney probably doesn't even know she's in a conservatorship (bless her), she just does her Vegas shows and gets given money for anything she wants. She's probably pretty happy with her life now
