Rice and chicken is great (rice is dirt cheap and you can find chicken for about $2/lb)
Peanut butter (filled w/ calories and inexpensive)
Milk (I go through about 3-4 gallons a week lol...)

I spend about $20 - 30 a week on food
Eating the same thing gets tiring, but I'm super poor, so...

I think i'm going to start the gym for the first time sometime this month i'm just a bit nervous. What do you wear? and what kind of routine would I need for my whole body? Like I know people have "leg days" or whatever

This! I eat the same thing everyday. A bag of Brown Rice last me a week. 1 pound of Black Beans last me the whole week!! It's so cheap!
But it does get tiring of eating the same thing and I can't afford eating something new everyday

For shoes, trainers/sneakers that are clean and you use exclusively indoors. I use running shoes, but depending on what kind of workouts you will be doing, you can get different kinds of gym shoes.
For clothes, it mostly depends on your preference. Obviously it should be suitable for working out, so no jeans etc, but that's about it. Some prefer tight clothing, other wear track pants, long sleeves or short sleeves, it's pretty much up to you. Just make sure your torso is covered.
The routine(s) you do depends on your goals/current fitness level. I would recommend having an induction with a trainer at the gym and telling them what you are aiming at, and they can put together a plan for you.

I was talking just for the chicken, if you goal is muscle growth then you need about 1-1.5grams of protein per lb (your bodyweight). Don't forget guys, diet has the biggest role in being fit, stay away from unhealthy fats and added sugar.

Does anyone here take a protein shake to the gym? I read that you're supposed to have protein in the hour after a workout for it to be most effective, is that true?

If you don't have the willpower to not eat junk food when it's available, make it unavailable. Stop buying it.

I would recommend looking for a personal trainer in your area to help you get started. They can not only tell you what exercises are suitable for you, but also make sure you do them correctly. Then when you know what to do you can train on your own.

I've heard this is well. No idea how true it is.
Though it would make sense; after exercise your body is starved for nourishment and needs to begin repairing all the damaged tissue. Providing that fuel ASAP seems like the best option

I hate how unmotivated i get to go to the gym when i have both school and work, im fine going if i just have one priority. I need my hot summer bod, i was so determined to get abs just a few weeks ago.. ill get there, i need a new pair of sneakers for motivation lol
At least im still bike riding/walking a lot even if im not at the gym, i want to get back into the routine though
