It's highly unlikely that any challenge made by either candidate would alter not only state delegate counts, but even county delegates and precinct voters.
Essentially, he's prolonging this to divert attention from the news that he fully intends to attempt to sway county and state delegates (especially those that went to O'Mal) in order to attempt to win, though I'm sure that Hillary has the same plan and he needs six or more of those eight or some of Hillary's in order to win.
What a lot of people don't get about the caucuses is that this is something they plan on doing - with it so close, Hillary likely plans on leaving staffers behind to sway county and state delegates since they're not committed and she can snatch O'Mal's or even some of Bernie's to protect herself, while Bernie's campaign has confirmed that at least one person is staying around for that very purpose.
This whole "we want more details" thing serves only to mask that and to attempt to get the popular vote to try and prove he did better, though that might not necessarily be true. I'm not judging him, either - Hillary's likely going to try to snatch delegates as well and if she thought she'd won the popular count would likely want it as well.
The caucuses are even more inherently political than most people think.
