Caucus = an two long event where people listen to the candidates (or their representatives) then publicly vote, usually by standing in one corner of the room.
Primary = voting booths more akin to a general election. You anonymously (after registering and verifying of course) vote. It takes like 2 minutes.
Either one can be open or closed. Open means people from either party can vote for either party. Closed means you have to be a registered Dem to vote in the Dem primary/caucus and visa versa.
I hope that helps. That's to the best of my knowledge. I was still learning about this during this election.
