Some girl in my Physics class literally had Tidal open, freaking out about the album.

This Brazilian exchange student girl was like, ranting lovingly to me about Rihanna on Thursday.

This was my first Rihanna album from start-to-finish, and I can definitely understand why Jay-Z and other music industry titans wanted to preserve Rihanna. I enjoy the structure of the album turning from hazy modern FKA Twigs inspired R&B to strident gospel towards the end, and the last track does what a quality last track is supposed to do: makes me crave more.

As someone who's never really been into Rihanna (I don't dislike her, she just never clicked for me), I can't wait to listen to this. Everything I've read sounds like it's right up my alley.

Give it a shot. I don't know why I'm being such a champion of this album. Probably because I expected mediocrity and ended up getting new songs to play on repeat.

I never listened to a whole Rihanna album before in my life but there's some legitimately pretty fantastic production and it's far from what you would expect from her. I didn't think she had an album like this in her.

My friends were all disappointed by the album, the surprising one was this guy who's literally a legit Rihanna stan. I thought he'd atleast love it, but he was like "I'm so disappointed. It just sounds so rushed and sloppy".

Some ratchet girls here and there were stanning though.

Bottomline: Rihanna should never try to think she's above the traditional singles to radio and traditional album release.

No offense, but I think it may be because you're black.
The album doesn't necessarily cater to urban as much as her prior efforts have.
I'm sure your friends/peers enjoyed the likes of Work and Woo?
Even Work is weirdly experimental, so probably not.
