Like in the census the word 'white' means people with origins from Europe, India and the Middle East. Then the data is used to draw stats from this vast set of people who are not even ethnically related. What does an Indian immigrant and a man from Appalachia have in common?
but that's the census though, not the actual definition of race.
is it misused most of the time? yes, but the concept of race itself isn't stupid.
It kind of is. There are great variations in languages, culture and looks among the so called races. Race was invented to discriminate other people, us vs the other.
Fff not a fan of this one either. Ideally, there would just be a blank and you identify as your ethnic group. And I hope that data isn't used for fishy purposes
I agree with race being a silly concept tbh. It only came about because of skin color and differences in cultures. I just find it silly how people turn down entire race because of their skin color or assume random things because they're "x".
But then again people love labels.

Yeah but there are a lot of people in America that don't know where they're from. They just know they're American. That's why it's all grouped in either black or white (the two biggest groups in America) and then Asian/Pacific Islander/etc if you are one.
