Have you watched any of her interviews? She'd always talk about how it was so hard at first to take all the criticism, and interviewers would constantly ask about it. Her image was way too controversial for her not to be hated.

bieber was hated by the gp

Criticism and hate intertwine in the topic of pop stars. People don't have deep conversations about them unless they're pop culture stans, since they don't even know them personally. You're letting nostalgia cloud your judgment.
Anyway, almost all fascinating pop stars are hated to an extent. Only the boring and safe ones are "universally loved", with the exception of Beyonce.

No, Britney was HATED. Definitely way worse than Bieber was.
There are still factions that despise her. Check internet comment sections. However, the comment sections are no longer 100% full of hate for her, so she has obviously turned everything around.

Both were hated but Britney's was different.
Britney started off similar to bieber being this safe mainstream teen star.
In order to reinvent herself she became more sexy and controversial but she was loved and then people sideeyed her for being young doing it...
they didn't think she'd last and as she kept being successful people became resentful and wanted to take her down.
Which is why i give timberlake such a hard time because he pretty much just gave the GP a gift wrapped in a bow. the media protected her and then timberlake decided to be very childish (not addressing his own infidelities) and it became a reason to hate Britney.
Bieber was similar but instead he became a jerk and it turned the GP and then he started being wreckless.
Britney's brand was still fine and her personality was still bubbly and nice but the GP got tired of her being more successful than everyone and wanted to take her down.
This was before 2004.
with bieber they just thought he was a punk that was spoiled and entitied.

The point is... he's still successful regardless of the PR stunts. "Decent" comeback? Lol. His comeback is huge. Like, his singles are doing better than Hello in some major countries - Adele, take that in. I already know his "I changed a lot" shtick is not genuine, but it is working in his favour. Justin Bieber was a cultural staple at 15 (literally everyone knows who he is and everyone knows his songs), and is slaying at the moment, turning 22 in two months. So he is.
I'm not saying he's surpassed her at the moment, but at this rate, there's a high chance of him to do so in the long run because he's still very young and does not have other responsibilities/priorities like Britney does.

Gaga is not even at the point where she could surpass Britney. You really think Justin Bieber can surpass Britney.

i dont let nostalgia or anything else cloud my judgment..
i was old enough to experience both eras.. britneys and bieber. and the reaction was not the same..
bieber was made fun by almost everyone ( except the girls between 9-12 ) and his song babay was one of the most hated songs...
britneys situation is not the same... and i will tell u again critisim doesnt mean hate..
we have a lot of britneys examples ...
ex.
britney was critisised for her vma performanced but the performance is universally acclaimed and iconic

Yeah I think timberlake did her no favors BUT the only reason why it didn't ruin her career is because they were too young to be so serious and also people wanted to know how she'd get him back.
When she hooked up with that guy she has 2 kids with...the people criticized her because as Matt lauer said, the gp thought she was too good for him.
Had they really hated her, they wouldn't have batted an eye at her being with him.
Instead, no matter how controversial they still respected Britney for earning her money and most people at least like a song or two.
I just hate that Britney was too immature (in a child star way) to understand that the GP CARED that's why they didn't want her with him.
that guy just took advantage and made himself the victim of their "hate" which made her feel sorry for him and he could wine and dine her however he pleased.
It was such a sad thing to see him get way with it because she didn't have street smarts to know his game.
She has more substance and character now so it's all good.
Legends always win in the end

I agree with you, but both of them were also hated before these incidents. Maybe not as much after these incidents occurred, but it was still very present.

Britney was definitely hated the worst out of any of her contemporaries, and even the new fleet of pop brats. People started to turn in 2001 and 2002 as they do with most women that get sexier and are adored by millions.
The breakup in 2002 really turned things around as Britney was painted like a villain during that. She was definitely more hated than loved at this point. The controversy fueled this. However, she had In the Zone and the tour to add. However, people weren't giving her credit. Someone wrote in an article once when reviewing Blackout that "Toxic" wasn't a huge hit because of her but it was a huge hit despite Britney :johnny:
By 2004, we had the 55-hour marriage, the marriage to K-fat to cement the hatred. In addition, this began Britney's trailer trash years, where her fashion was horrible and she would walk in gas station bathrooms barefoot. The media would try to find any excuse to criticize her and add to the "trailer trash" narrative.
Then, she had her kids. And she had the audacity to not lose the weight after Sean Preston. The public and media roasted her for that. They also criticized her calling her a bad mom from 2006 and up from that.
Then her breakdown happened.
So Britney went from late 2002 to mid-2008 being absolutely despised. Then she turned things around. And through consistency, she continues to look better and better in the eyes of the GP since she has been acting normal longer than she has been acting like the late 2002 to mid-2008 Britney.

He had full intentions of properly releasing it as an album (including a physical release), but his label put a stop to it because its underperformance and the sales weren't reported to Billboard to save face.

A white man (to clarify).
Yes.
Bad behavior and the ability to bounce back from it
IMO
White men > White women > Black men that don't have a gangsta image > black women > Black men that have a gangsta image.
By default Bieber can get away with more than Britney but outside of his generation I don't think people cared as much as they did with Britney.
People were invested. I remember this was discussed alot in that era.
Her rebellion and being blinded by love was like watching your child mess up in college but you won't let them live off you and they won't listen to your advice.
When Britney shaved her head
For the week before that I was ready to jump ship because i felt she spoiled her comeback.
then i saw a pic with her looking A MESS at a playground/swinging on a swing and then that
photo op of that guy she had kids with and timberlake hugging made me feel for her
SHE SHAVED HER HEAD and I woke up from partying the night before (like 6 am or something) looked on x17 online and I almost had a breakdown.
I drove two hours to my parents house SAID NOT ONE WORD about it until they brought it up.
People were invested in Britney.
Bieber never had that. He got too much too soon and became a jerk but he's a man so they keep his bad attitude under wraps and voila...he comes back like nothing ever happened

Even before 2001 and her complete transition, she still had many haters due to her controversial image.

No he did not, lol. Every song he released from the album went to #1 on iTunes. That makes no sense. It was up on iTunes for two weeks and was not released physically. Albums are released physically and digitally at the same time. It wasn't intended to be taken as a real era, hence him not making a music video for the album's first single - or song release, I should say. The only reason All That Matters and Confident had music videos is because they had a lot of buzz surrounding them.

Exactly! His PR team just did a simple move with ''he's changed!!11!" + he released some catchy dance pop tunes, and he was back in the public's good graces again.

How is it a "damn lie"? Justin is seven years into his career and is on top of the world, both musically and in terms of celebrity. People stopped caring about Gaga and her music five/six years into her career, back in 2013/2014.
Also, take into consideration that Justin is only 21. He has a long way to go before he actually fades away.
