how can you work harder when opportunities to work at all aren't given to you/there for you to take
This impoverished mindset is ridiculous. You aren't looking if you think there are zero opportunities.
EVERYBODY can find SOMETHING. Nobody is saying you need to be wealthy. If the only available job is folding shirts at Wal-Mart, you take your ass to Wal-Mart and fold the **** out of those shirts.
He sold 800k and WILL go plat. Funny how he outsold Drake and Cole outside of the US too
You can drag Cole, but Drake's was a mixtape with no promotion, no songs serviced to radio, and no televised performances so yeah it wasn't going to sell outside US where Rap isn't known and all it was selling off was his stans buying it. All of Drake's studio albums have outsold Kendrick's studio albums outside US. I'm sure Views will do well outside US too.
Kendrick also himself tweeted his disappointment in his opening sales.
It's been quality release after quality release. Talen't hasn't won just yet but I have hope.
She could see success but I don't want her to do it by being the antithesis to the one who's brother can't be left alone with anyone under the age of fourteen.
what youre saying is true but at the same time this new trend of just complaining about it and not actually doing anything productive to beat your odds doesn't help either. You're not dealt a fair hand? lifes not fair, work harder
eh, maybe its a utopian fantasy to want there to be no odds to beat and for opportunities to be equally handed to everyone regardless of race or socioeconomic status. like i'm not a fan of the defeatist attitude or just telling people to stop being lazy. the establishment shouldnt be absolved of their responsibility to society is what I'm saying.
There's really no right or wrong in the "new black/old black" debate considering how many factors should be considered when talking about oppression and how a lot of it works on an individual basis.
Let's leave the generalizations to the kids over on Reddit.

What bugs me is that Drizzy stans swear that he destroys Kendrick commercially when the difference between their sales is actually tenious. NWTS outsold GKMC by 200k in spite of the latter not having 1/5 of the radio support (none of K.Dot's singles were as huge on radio as HOWGH). Like just give him his credit
And wasn't Energy bigger than anything on TPAB anyway ? Radio obviously supported him

The difference between their sales is not "tenious".
Drake's mixtape outsold his studio album. If Kendrick dropped a mixtape, no hype, no radio, no promotion, how much would it do in comparison? His studio album only did 800K, so I'm doubtful a mixtape would even do 500K.
Drake's mixtape did over 1M. How is that "tenious"?
GKMC actually had good sales, nobody ever said it didn't. It's TPAB that didn't have good sales.
True, but I'm not talking about being rich and living lavishly. I believe everyone can at least live comfortably with responsible life choices. If you don't pursue any education after High School and instead you pop out baby after baby and/or start dealing drugs/doing illegal things, you can't be surprised when you end up at a certain point. The leading cause for black men ending up in jail/prison is drug offenses. I personally think drugs should be decriminalized, but the fact is they aren't right now. They are still illegal. If you engage in illegal activity, you cannot be surprised when the cops come knocking.
This is a very important video.
you really think its that easy to get a job? and if you do get a minimum wage job will it pay enough to support your family? thats the reason why young men turn to drug dealing, leading them inevitably to be incarcerated (school to prison pipeline)
is it that easy to get into college? can everyone pay the astronomical fees? do the inner city schools give high enough quality education for people to get into college?
you act like these people havent thought of that a million times, life isnt that easy for everyone.
Kendrick has never been about sales. His sales aren't even bad compared to other rap acts that also released in 2015. TPAB was the 2nd best rap selling album of 2015 and will likely go platinum this year.
Let me know when Drake can make AOTY worthy material.
Kendrick has better flow, lyrics and production than Drake. Not to mention how his albums are conceptually ambitious and complex.
Obviously Drake sells more because he has much more pop elemnts in his sound.
Drake is great but he is definitely not touching Kendrick at all.

Drake has made lots of AOTY material. It's all subjective.
But with lots of Kendrick stans, "what's AOTY material" is just determined by what critic sites they bandwagon.

This goes back to what I said about making responsible life choices. Refrain from starting a family until you are financially secure enough to do so. And you don't need to go Dartmouth. If you get good grades, are an athlete/club member, and have a job/some volunteer work (not even a necessity) you CAN get into some state school, which is better than nothing. And if you can't, community colleges hardly reject anyone and can A) cut down your cost of college immensely B) lead to a B.A/higher degree and C) provide you with some sort of education. There are loans, grants, financial aid (as FD says, "the BROKER you are, the more college is paid for") and scholarships. And fine, if college isn't for you, what about a trade school? Cosmetology? Tech? Nursing? Culinary? Like I said, there is SOMETHING out there for everyone. It's not about life being easy. I don't and will never subscribe to the idea that there are zero options. There is always an option.

A difference of 300k is exactly what I call tenious. You dismissed the GKMC/NWTS comparison and then mention TPAB, yet you don't even know how Drake next album will perform. IYRTITL did well but WATTBA was a frontloaded mess

Or maybe, just maybe it's determined by the actual quality of the music that makes critics love his material. I don't get the "bandwagon" scenario when he's been making outstanding material since Section 80. Notice how both GKMC & TPAB are both AOTY-nominated and two of the most critically acclaimed rap albums (outside of MBDTF) this decade.
