It'd be awfully weird for the least acclaimed film to win (It's also 22nd on critics' aggregate of T10 lists, so it doesn't have passion for it either.) when the director is the incumbent winner.

Predicting Spotlight though, directing, screenplay, editing and two somehow unexpected acting nods point that way.

I'm about to watch Carol. Has anyone seen it? I heard it was the biggest snub from BP this year. It's the highest reviewed at Metacritic with 95. Even more than Spotlight.

I didn't like The Martian tbh, it felt like a promo for NASA. Out of the three constant, Oscar-nominated space movies we got from the last three years, it's my least favorite.

SAG and BAFTA will be the real precursors of this category imo. The other 3 acting categories seem to be set in stone but for Supporting Actress we have 3 contenders, Winslet, Mara & Vikander. Four if you count McAdams, assuming Spotlight wins BP and Original Screenplay there is still need for a 3rd trophy to give them editing would be absurd, S. Actor is impossible and Directing is undeserved that leaves McAdams as their last possibility.

I am hoping for Mara too. Despite the obvious category fraud.

I just saw Mad Max last night and I cant really tell if its brilliant or overrated. The editing and pace was outstanding but I thought the character development was a bit lacking. Its great that its nominated but I wouldnt really call it a forerunner, I was more entralled with The Big Short.
