I think you'll find that was a solution, not an excuse. I think you'll also find Michael B Jordan's performance was lacklustre, the Academy very rarely honour sci-fi/superhero type franchise roles & that all the Straight Outta' Compton leads were poor. The only nominee from the films you listed could have been Straight Outta' Compton for Best Picture (at a huge, huge reach: truly would never happen) where Ice Cube (producer) could have accepted the award.
Increasing public demand for minority-led movies will increase the amount of minority-led movies supplied to the market, giving minorities more prominent film roles & creating more minority actors. That's basic supply+demand. More minority actors in more prominent roles for minority actors in movies increases the chance of Academy recognition of minority actors. Basic statistics. Studios respond only to numbers; the same needs to happen for female-led films.
TL/DR: the Academy can't honour minority actors for playing non-existing roles in non-existing movies. The only way to get studios to bring these films into existence is by spending the ten dollars for a ticket when you see a non-White lead.
