How big of a percentage are the non white people in the USA compared to the white people in the USA ?

And then how many are the non white actors compared to the whilte actors ?

Pretty sure that white people are at least 70% of the population in the USA, so the chance of a white person being nominated is 3 times bigger.

As an example ^^

Michael B. Jordan was no worse than his White co-star Stallone. And HE was nominated. The categories don't cap out at 5/6 people they can reach up to 10. So there was room for him to be nominated, he wasn't, and he should have been. His performance was just as critically praised as the others that were nominated.

Ehhh is anyone really surprised anymore? we go thru this every year..yeah its messed up but if anyone follow the award season and other award shows the only ones that had a shot were Will Smith for best actor for concussion(and I heard he wasn't that good) and Idris Elba for best supportin(beasts of no nation). Besudes that there was no other major non whites with any award season buzz or critical acclaim that would had a chance. its no the Oscars is the industry that lacked minorities in major roles/leads in movies. I do think is messed up but I also look at the bigger picture and the problem is the industry. Like I said check the reviews, acclaimed performances and other award shows this should be no surprise.

Edit: I'm Hispanic and we never get any love but like I said those were the big contenders.

Not really, it's true. Only two actors had some buzz this year, Will Smith and SLJ, but both of their performances were just ok and they deservedly didn't get a nod.

Now the actresses from Tangerine, they deserve it, but that kind of movie almost never make it to the big awards. Not becuase of race, but because it's too indie

The Oscars the past two years have nominated and awarded crappy films with little to no impact and awarded them.

I wonder what happened to the councils that nominated films such as Slumdog Millionaire, Precious, Life of Pi, Brokeback Mountian and films as such which actually broke ground and told amazing unique stories that most people wouldn't hear about but now they seemed to become extremely safe in nominating non controversial films.

I am a black man but I'm glad Alejandro González Iñárritu is nominated. Being the only minority for a major award in a sea of atypical nominations is a good thing for all minorities.

Television seems to get that diversity and showing all aspects of America ends up making money. Look at the biggest films this year and the diversity of their cast (Jurassic World, F7, Star Wars). These films are being rewarded for that. The academy needs to lead this before their institution becomes meaningless and extinct.

I don't blame all directors who are nominated. Ridley Scott especially has always been a great director at casting diversity

Idris deserves a nomination, but being a Netflix movie was a strike against him.

The probably is that not enough black actors and actresses are getting Oscar roles. How are we suppose to get nominated when we aren't getting those roles.

Well, if the five nominated white actors (in each category) were simply the best, then what's the problem? Or would you prefer a black actor to snatch a nomination even if he didn't deserve it and someone more deserving was snubbed because of it? I don't know why some people always play the race cards and make racism out of everything.
