Yeah the finale was truly a non-event. Hotel has it's flaws, and moments where I was just like wtf am I watching. I mean TaylorNation was spot on about the cross-over scenarios. They were so tired, and done with no sophistication. The only one that somewhat held some substance was The Countess returning to the Murder House.
Absolutely hated Queenie, and the landlord lady, they completely ruined their characters, and made them into parodies of originally greatly written characters, or so I felt.
Billy was

for someone who doesn't keep up-to-date with this show die hard style, this could've be incredibly confusing. I was hoping somehow it would be done a lot smarter also, in a way that John was also attracted to Billy, the same way he was attracted to Sally. And maybe if he didn't completely understand why, it could've been something they explored in further seasons, their is no real deep meaning behind the connections, which I knew all along, but to build a show like this up, and for it to be truly great in it's best moments, and really a triumphant masterpiece at times for an anthology horror on tv. To not even at least try to find a feasible reason behind the seasons connecting is really poor on the writing side of things (that's probably my biggest complaint with Hotel) and having known all along their wasn't going to be some real reason as to how the seasons connect, I would've truthfully just preferred to never see them overlap.
This season truly had some great moments, massive triumphant moments. I think introducing Lady Gaga to the show was an incredible decision for the brand, and I'm not even saying that from a stan point of view, it made complete sense to have Gaga be apart of this, it is completely on par with their brand, they gave her a wonderful opportunity and in return she was the standout newbie of the bunch and brought some of the greatest moments this season, and I think this experience will teach her so much, and make her talent grow even further as an actress.
I think it made some really great statements about trans people, I thought Liz was handled beautifully, her scene with her son, literally had me tearing up, the music they used for Liz's scenes most of the time was perfect "I Just Can't Get Enough" and "Bette Davis Eyes" all in one episode, amazing! That scene with Gaga, was so touching, and warmed my heart, I sobbed.
Sally was an incredible character, except her end was complete trash, I mean..
Miss Evers was a really strong character as well, Iris had great moments. I actually think the children did great as well, which doesn't make me scared if they decide to use children in future seasons.
The music all round this season was possibly the best ever, I love Tear you apart, spellbound, and all the retro music they played, Hotline Bling. Really, really great.
And I loved it so much more than Freak Show, and I truly believe it's up their in the top 3 for the show. I still can't settle on a final ranking
Whether it's Asylum > Murder House > Hotel or Asylum > Hotel > Murder House
But I think Murder House had stronger writing, either way it improved in many areas that I felt Coven and Freak Show lacked, more so Freak Show. But Hotel also lacked in areas that Murder House and Asylum didn't really lack in, or it wasn't so prevalent, in your face, obvious. And lacked in areas that were similar to Coven and Freak Show.
I feel like Asylum and Murder House were so mature, and sophisticated for the horror genre, with the right amount of humor, and it felt important for television. Hotel started to creep back into that realm.
Whereas Freak Show, Coven and Hotel (at times) felt childlike in someways.
