Asylum is the only finale to ever completely break that rule. Somehow.
Though honestly, the Hotel ending was pretty solid all things considered. I walked away without scratching my head over incomprehensible, glaring plotholes, all the characters were treated well and given at least acceptable endings, and it actually felt like an ending, so all in all it blew the FS and Coven endings out of the water
I'm not totally sure I 100% loved it, but I did enjoy it enough, at least. It's certainly not seaason ruining. Though I would have preferred the Hotel becoming an inescapable personal hell for each ghost like I expected
