I think singing lower is better for her, generally. Her default (chest) register is typically an octave lower than her studio versions, which is why most performances of songs like Stay and Diamonds where she really shines, sound slightly lower than the studio versions. When she tries to replicate the exact studio pitch, she struggles.
But yes, I agree that she's lost breath support, as well as some range, due to alcohol + smoking. Her breath control which appeared to be improving steadily (particularly during the Loud era) now looks to be on a decline. There's also some things she used to be able to do then -- like the really high note she used to hit during the "memories" part of Love The Way You Lie 2, which it appears she can't pull off anymore.
