Announcement regarding the usage of adjectives in submissions
Prior to the beginning of Round 2, I somewhat ambiguously stated that I wanted to rid the game of submissions where an adjective describes the thing being submitted. This is a well-known workaround in the game, and if treated as legal it can inhibit originality and make the game less exciting.
Beginning with Round 3, adjectives will only be accepted if they are an essential portion of the term that is being submitted.
To make sure everyone understands what I'm talking about, let's take an example from Round 2.
For the category "an article of clothing," one of the submissions I received was "black shawl." The only reason that "black" was included in this submission was so that it would be valid- "shawl" doesn't begin with a B. But the word "black" doesn't add anything to the concept of a shawl- it's a shawl whether it is black or not. Thus, "black" here is what I'm going to call a non-essential adjective, meaning that it does not serve any purpose besides ensuring validity and increasing the chances of getting a unique answer. Another example of this occurs in the "something that is used to carry/hold things" category, where I accepted a "Burberry tote bag." From now on, all submissions with non-essential adjectives will be considered invalid.
Now, for the category "something that you would find specifically at an airport," one of the submissions I received was "black box." The word "black" does not function as an adjective here, and it is essential to the term. If the submission simply consisted of "box," I would have deemed it invalid because you can find boxes in a myriad of non-airport places. But here, the set phrase "black box" represents a flight recorder, something that you won't find outside of an airport very often. Set phrases are perfectly fine.
Please ask any clarifying questions in the thread before you submit your Round 3 answers; the round will be posted soon.
