What a way to go. He didn't leave us with the self-referential, iconography-critiquing 'The Next Day', or the career-spanning hits record. He made one last great push forward, commercial reward be damned, and refused to give any ****s. An artist and a ****ing gent until the very end. I wouldn't expect any less.

He truly was a magnificent artist, and this album is his parting gift to his fans, the lyrics resonate through time and space and speak about the way he saw his own departure from this world, Black Star seems to struggle at first to define the kind of artist he wanted to be remembered as but there's no struggle in Bowie's art, there's no thinking, his a trailblazer and the brightest of them all.
The fact that he did this record for his fans while he could've gone away quietly, speaks volumes of the kind of star he was and the love he had for his fans, his craft and himself.
There's a dark morbid depth to this that is just riveting, Lazarus is just a punch in the stomach, it takes your breath away and refuses to give you a second to think.
I don't really like this album and i've never really listened to his music, but i appreciated so much how he always pushed the envelope.
If you want to get into his music you should leave this album for the end. Start with more accessible albums like Ziggy Stardust, Scary Monsters, Young Americans or Aladdin Sane.
it was actually my goal for 2016 to check out all of his albums
i have listened to like 9 so far and i'm in love with them, especially with low and "heroes"
i honesly can't wait to listen to blackstar

This!
I swear, just last week I said to myself "wow I really need to get into David Bowie" since my dad has always been a big fan, and a week later he's gone So sad. He really left his mark on this planet though, and that will never change. Such an amazing artist.
