I wouldn't dream of Gaga winning an acting Oscar yet, lord no. But I'm not sure winning an Oscar for a song would be as easy as Gaga grabbing a Tony, for example - the girl is MADE for theatre, more than for anything else. In contrast to that, this is the first time she's been seriously discussed as a contender for an Oscar nom, and she's not the favorite by a long shot. She could be in the future, but it's not like she'll make the nom list every year or anything.
BAFTA used to be the best precursor, how the mighty have fallen.
