well here in the northeast there's a couple reasons why we'd prefer cats. our winters are cold and snowy, so people don't want to have to take their pets out for walks or to go to the bathroom like you have to do with dogs. and in the bigger cities, there's a lot of business people who are away at work most of the time, and cats would cope better with being alone and don't need constant attention like dogs do
