Kesha's last single, "Timber," was a number one hit, and will soon hit one billion views on YouTube. People don't have to care about an artist, they just have to like their singles. And I'd even argue that the large majority of people (with lives) actually don't care about artists and never will, they just want good music. Kesha wasn't a good example to use, because Kesha was forced into not releasing music, even though she still delivered hit after hit after hit. The public didn't stop buying her singles.
I can't wait for the first REAL singles artist. It will really be an interesting experiment.
When an artist never releases an album, just a new single, every two to three months, for years.
