i really don't get why everyone hates it so much. unless people hate just the production, in which case yes, that is fair. but the song itself is great. it's so bitter and perfectly describes that kind of unhealthy relationship. her voice didn't have enough grit or depth to bakcup a song like that and her cursing during the chorus is really cringeworthy because it feels forced. the awful instrumental is just the cherry on top of a horrible song!


tricky stewart is such a horrible fit for her hope he stays away from kp4

nah, the cursing definitely fits the song--not forced at all

also, her voice does have an edge or raspiness to it, so i don't really get where you're coming from. she sounds great on it

but yeah, tricky stewart is a tragic producer. his productions on TD (CTD, WAILF, HH, DU) are terrible. i think they are four good-to-great songs on their own worsened by his horrible production and the gross vocal production. i listen to them in spite of how stupid the production is, because they're fun at least.

well it feels forced to me the entire song anyway because it felt like an excuse for her to earn some kind of artistic credibility from the critics. and her voice didn't have any edge or whatsoever in teenage dream. it was very processed and metallic and mask the real rasp her voice has on live setting.

who am i living for's production is pretty good but katy's vocals were the problem in that track anyway (which thankfully got better now in the studio)

Wasn't Zedd obsessed with trying to get a collab with Katy at one point? His music became trash though so I'm kinda glad she passed on him, she must have sensed he would become a fad

how does swearing earn artistic credibility though? idk, when she talked about CTD in an interview, she said she swore because it added to the song's vibe and concept. she doesn't swear in her music very often, either

90% of them got into Katy because of songs like California Gurls, Firework and Roar, you can't expect them to enjoy Katy with a bit of an edge to her. It's why I find it hilarious when people want Katy to go dark - her fanbase would vanish.

Circle The Drain was almost my number 5 but I changed my mind - listening now I regret that because it's pretty great. As the first Teenage Dream review said: "I predict songs like Firework and Circle The Drain will be even bigger than her worldwide hits I Kissed A Girl and Hot n Cold." Would the Daily Star lie?

Circle the Drain suffers from it's awful production, the lyrics are also pretty cliché but it's a pop song.
