Nicki took a hit commercially after the whole "sellout" moment a few years ago, whilst J. Cole maintaining his fanbase and gaining new fans. It has nothing to do with her being female.

J Cole didn't start selling mass amounts until the white people discovered him and thought they were "down" by playing his music.
None of this changes the fact that male rappers have a huge advantage over female rappers.
