It's kind of a compliment to her how over-dramaticized her first underperforming era was. The media and public dragged her on any little sign of a fall, and all over an album that had two notable hits and moderately decent album sales. It's a testament to how significant she is as a pop artist.
I wouldn't say she lost industry respect. The album still had positive reviews overall and that Billboard survey confirmed at lot of industry heads still had faith in her.
