Gaga didn't really face backlash to the actual world during ARTPOP. ARTPOP was just a non-event. Applause and DWUW's audio was essentially the entire era. Neither were trashed. Born this Way was when she was trashed, ARTPOP people just didn't care. Like Kworb said a few days ago, you guys see these articles on here everyday and think it's what the real-world is seeing, when in reality, nobody in the actual world knows what the hell an ARTPOP, Angela Cheng, or 258K opening was/is.
But it's so dumb that the same gays try to argue she's a fad when she's performing at the OSCARs, being Billboard Woman of the Year, and has been in countless other relevant things this year. She's still known to the entertainment industry as a huge A-List name, and she's still getting mainstream attention. People have called her a fad so much it's genuinely stuck in their head and they can't help but to say it everyday, when it just shows they don't know what a fad is to begin with.
Then you have the reverse like Britney's case where the mere mention of her name brings up all those awful stereotypes about pop music and women in pop music, of which she is the ultimate embodiment.
It's kind of the same negative connotation that Germany has with Hitler.
To be honest, no stars are that still spoken of daily here are "fads". And when things flop, people need to stop acting like that literally means their career is over. That means they had a non-eventful moment in their career. Ask the next general punter if they know who Lady Gaga is, they'll say yes. If they know who Britney is, they'll say yes. Know who Carly Rae Jepsen is, know who Mariah is, know who even Ciara is, they'll probably say yes.
Asking them if they know of their latest album might conjure a different answer, but that doesn't renounce the status of the celeb. Not to the point of them being "over" anyway.

I think people don't get that you are either a deep artist or a fun artist. The ones that rely on antics want to slow things down and be serious artist.
