Hozier and ME are at about the same sales, it's not like it was a blowout. Regardless, that ONE factor doesn't mean the Hozier era overall was bigger. Ari had more HIT singles, more streams, and a FAR larger tour. So what was that argument supposed to prove?
TMTC is bigger than all the ME singels combined WW
It’s not surprising that the sing is still charting over a year since it happened
Gather 'round, now I'm back from my holiday
"Long live the Queen" what the people say
And that be me, I got a king in my cavalry
Them other knights, say goodnight, they get apathy
Inseparable like Mary Kate and Ashley
Incredible, I'm ready if you ask me
To ride on them feminine chicks, you feel me?
I break 'em down, it's a sport, I should win an Espy
Royalty, another level, boy you don't shine
Legendary, leather nation needs a paradigm
Call all the king's horses and all the king's men
We ruling 'til the end
Kingdom come
I think this argument took a HUGE tangent, but we were talking about eras being bigger than one another. While you may be right about the "investment" aspect, using one metric of consumption to argue that one era was bigger than another just doesn't work (especially when the victory in that metric was marginal compared to the other blowouts).
Obviously Ariana's era was bigger - she is a pop star. But her album sales are awful, she released five singles and had insane promotion for MONTHS. The fact that Hozier sold more than her says a lot, just like acts like Florence selling more than these other pop girls. Hozier and Florence Welch will have insane longevity, the others will die as soon as the hits stop coming.

No it's not. Problem's Vevo views alone are more than TMTC's Spotify and Vevo streams combined. TMTC outsold Problem by a good bit, but throw in Break Free or Bang Bang and it's over.
Can we move on from this argument? It's been totally derailed by useless statements
If I didn't follow charts/sales, I would've thought LEGEND Me Harder was one of the biggest hits of 2015. It felt so huge and everyone seemed to love it.
Maybe I'm crazy, but it felt bigger than Bang Bang (maybe that's because 75% of people I knew hated it, but still).

Take Me To Church is still bigger than any Ariana song in every country.
