Items we are bidding for can be advantages, bonuses, but also negative items. Sometimes we won't know what we are bidding for.

Yeah, like Legend said you only have a budget of $1,000 which is supposed to last you the whole game (34 rounds). So it's not advisable to spend it all on the first auction, especially since it's not that easy to win money (you have to be in the top 5 of a challenge for that).
