Well, just look around. The "core" group leaves every few years. I'm used to seeing members from 2008-2011 being all over the place (I think I was the most active from mid 2011 to mid 2012 until I got banned for 7 months; and a lot got changed when I came back in 2013). Now I mostly see like 2012-2014 members.

And how often do you see pre-2007 members?

The site changes, and the residents clear out.

I think the upgrade will bring good things, but the cynic in me dislikes the whole "family-friendly pop culture resource for everyone" angle that the admins are aiming for.

That's exactly what I mean. ATRL is technically thriving in its current format. So many people are desperate to sign up. More restrictions will counteract this demand.

It used to be an absolute FREE-FOR-ALL.

And the Navy ALWAYS called Beyoncé an ape ("Beyoncpé" was a nickname for a while).

But one day, the Hive realized that they could use "ape" against Riri, too, so they did, and they took OVER SYG one day spamming "RIHAPE" and stuff like that, posting Rihanna lyrics over gifs of monkeys/gorillas/apes/etc (including this one with an ape in the shower pulling back the curtain and saying something with Stay lyrics over it which used to make me scream).

And the Navy felt this was entirely unfair and a clear-cut case of racism, so they complained, and then SYG got shut down for a couple hours, and when it rih-opened, the rules were changed that racist jokes such as those were no longer allowed.

And ever since then, the rules have become more and more strict, but the other changes stem from other incidents, though it all started with that one.
