I consider her Sound of Music tribute to be a more significant career highlight than the Paparazzi VMA performance. I mean sure, the VMA performance is iconic and great but Sound of Music was a real turning point for her and she literally got the world's attention.

It was all over the media the night after the performance and the day after. Paparazzi helped cement her but if it didn't do the job then the viral slayage that came with Bad Romance would have cemented her regardless. Paparazzi is still a huge moment for her, though.
