Meh i disagree. We have had Kanto available in 4 out of 6 gens. Having Kanto again just for some updates is anything but necessary and they won't dare to do much with the story since "muh nostalgia" so what's the point.. (also Kanto's main story + Sevii Islands is less than what XY had to offer since the game is super short and lacking ..sadly )
Actually the 3DS is pretty much dead (it's not getting much support anymore) and it's very likely that they'll move onto the next thing in a year with the NX which is supposedly both a console and a handheld. Gen 7 will most likely come in late 2017 so a year after the possible NX launch

The BW2 sales figure is the most accurate reliable number I can find; even if they had sold a million more than platinum, that ranks them as the worst selling paired versions and only the second best selling "third version" (and it's pretty unfair to compare them to other single games) behind Yellow, which quite frankly sucks coming from a Generation with no remakes and with comparatively robust sales for the first paired set.
Kanto is "available" in four of the generations, but it's not playable in its story form, and that's the important part that I was trying to point out. The NX is pretty likely not going to be a straight-up 3DS successor, and in fact will likely take on more of the console position than the handheld. I'd bet they keep moving forward not only with the 3DS, but subsequently with more handhelds concurrent to the NX. I doubt Gen 7 is coming any sooner than Fall 2018 - I'd put money on it. Fall 2017 would be the earliest. It's not unlikely, but I personally doubt it.
Kanto's main story + Sevii was definitely not shorter than XY. With regard to the "what's the point?" argument, I direct you enthusiastically to the most recent games in the series, for which most doubters said: "What's the point?" We could sit here and discuss the Gen I Megas, how well they line up with the Indigo League teams already (and that's assuming they don't just introduce more), the Gen I references throughout the plot of the games so far, etc. etc. like those people who sat there yelling "JOHTO CONFIRMED" back in the DPPt days, but I think you already know there's plenty of evidence.
It probably won't happen. They'll probably (stupidly) move on to Gen VII in 2017 after Z in 2016, but I'd like you to acknowledge that it's at least a possibility and has legitimate evidence to back it up!
