Well he's a cowriter, how is that stealing? And it is actually one of her most acclaimed songs, it made it to a lot of lists.
So not only her fans but the critics too
And it has better lyrics, better melody, better message, better instrumental & better production...etc
than her follow up hits like GF & WYG

He wrote the song amd Avril made just a few changes...
GF and Complicated made it to a lot more year end and best of lists. And they dont get as much praise from her fans as that third overrared mess.
The lyrics and message are among her worst and the other stuff like melody and production did Butch and not Avril.

We can't assume it's all Butch, Avril helped too. So yeah at least she wasn't accused of ripping off with it. And it doesn't matter who did the production, the outcome is what matters
And I wasn't talking about those year end lists that are based on success, I was talking about lists made by critics. The message, well breaking up is better than stealing girlfriends or missing somebody in a cheesy way

I was just saying that her fans shouldn't be this proud of MHE since she didn't contribute that much to this song.
I also meant those lists where critics agree that Complicated & Girlfriend >>> MHE.
No, blaming everyone else but yourself for a failed relationship is not better than singing about how you deserved someone more than anyone else and missing a person because he/she went through a drastic change.

Well critics tend to agree that Complicated> MHE but there's no GF/WYG> MHE.
And if you're talking about what Avril contributed to the songs, Luke stole GF from TBDT (Butch's work & That old stupid band) and for Complicated, let's not forget it's cowritten with the matrix (professional writers) so let's not try to make it seem like Avril contributed more in these songs than in MHE.
And since when she's blaming everyone in MHE. She's blaming her boyfriend & his bad friends. But at least she showed him a classy side of her, rather than stealing his GF or missing him like teen girl. I mean:
Quote:
Don't leave me hanging
In a city so dead
Held up so high
On such a breakable thread
It's nice to know that you were there
Thanks for acting like you cared
And all of the memories, so close to me, just fade away
All this time you were pretending
So much for my happy ending
|
OR:
Quote:
I've never felt this way before
Everything that I do reminds me of you
And the clothes you left, they lie on the floor
And they smell just like you,
I love the things that you do
When you're gone
The pieces of my heart are missing you
When you're gone
The face I came to know is missing too
When you're gone

Yeah, Complicated and Girlfriend were commercially and critically successful and came from albums that were also critically acclaimed. MHE is just there is her discography along with Fly and her Chop Suey cover....

Well then you should read maybe the reviews she gets for her albums and not just what her fan accounts post.

They didn't lose the court case with GF so it wasn't stolen and Avril generally wanted to make songs like Hey Mickey. That's also why it resembles more HM than TBDT and is also a better song than TBDT (which was also written and produced by the same guy who did MHE)
Well, I agree that she had more saying in the making process of TBDT than her first two albums if that's what you wanted to say.

Recochoku Western Daily (25/11)
65. Avril Lavigne - Bad Reputation
Would have been a lot higher if there weren't like 30 Xmas songs before her.
But this makes me think that releasing an Christmas album would be great in Japan, she would easily go at least Platinum.
Recochoku Western Weekly (16/12 - 22/12)
49. Girlfriend
55. Bad Reputation
73. What the Hell
R. Western Monthly (November)
40. Girlfriend

WTH coming for that Million & BR coming for Platinum
What about her albums?
I'd love if she releases a Christmas Ep not a full album.

I don't think that Recochoku has a chart for albums, even it has one Oricion doesn't track digital sales for albums.
Christmas EPs almost never do well on the charts, if she wants to release one for fun then yes...

Wow this is great.
Goodbye Lullaby is Gold if I remember correctly. There was a site (wasn't up on the internet for a long time) where it said that GL was certified gold...
And thanks for posting.

2-M Online. It was closed and it's so hard to find some information about old sales.
GL peaked at #3 btw.

But I think that UMS and TBDT have better recurrent sales so I don't see your point. MHE remains iconicless.
Canadian iTunes
1376. Avril Lavigne - What the Hell
Coming for 3x Platinum.
UK iTunes
1495. Avril Lavigne - Sk8er Boi
1095. Avril Lavigne - Let Go
1494. Avril Lavigne - Avril Lavigne

According to BB, GL is the only album beside Let Go that still sells.
Plus, you forget the fact that MHE and Complicated are the only singles b4 TBDT era that went platinum in US plus MHE MV has more views than I'm With You and Sk8er Boi on VEVO so haters are gonna hate .
Though I prefer I'm With You and Sk8erBoi but facts are facts

iTunes launched right after MHE was released so of course it sold a million.
And as for the albums BB gave numbers in a small decimal. So TBDT 1.7 million could be either 1,700,000 or 1,749,000, while for for GL we know exactly how much it sold since it isn't a million seller and there no point in saying that it sold 0.4 million.

The sales were like minimum back to 2004 and since then MHE has still sold more in US since it was like under 1 million few years ago but it is at 1.2-1.3 million (since i can't remember correctly) while I'm With You and Sk8er Boi were at 500k mark few years ago and still stall under 1 million mark.
Same thing happened for TBDT, i was at 1.7 million for like 5 years while GL had sold 40k more copies since 2013 (or 2014). Like you said, we don't have the actual numbers but apparently, GL's recurrent sales are quite better. You can debate that it's newer but you should remember than it's also doing better than Avril Lavigne.

A lot of people bought TBDT so you can find a lot of cheap version on eBay and other sites, while not a lot bought GL and the only way to get it is to buy it from Amazon, iTunes or local stores.
Recochoku Western Daily
38. Girlfriend
98. Bad Reputation

The only relevant source for recurrent sales of these 2 albums are BB and it's quite clear that GL has sold more recently. In face, Let Go and GL are the only albums that still can sell according to BB.
