YouTube is actually a good representation of global power. People here in South America don't buy music.. they either stream it on Spotiy or YouTube.

If you take a look at a lot of 'Latin' hits they have millions of views yet they have sold barely nothing because hits here are based on airplay and views. I'm pretty sure this happens in a lot of other places.
I don't know about other places but Rihanna is for sure a bigger name in South America than Lady Gaga.

And sales are a measurement of global power because? People in South American countries prefer to stream music rather than buy it. And that's also turning into a common thing in the biggest music markets. You just gotta check how bad the digital sales are currently.

But that is different. Meghan literally debuted during streaming's peak. If Gaga had smashed with Poker Face or any of her other smashes during 2014 I'm pretty sure she would have the same amount of views if not more than All About That Bass for example.

Madonna debuted in the 80s and her videos are blocked here () so that's another story. All I'm saying is that at least here in South America.. views and airplay equal popularity, not sales because nobody buys music.

Almost everyone has more views on youtube, because, again, Gaga has released 2 music videos since 2012 January and one of those was a huge flop.

Gaga's channel is dead. Popular channels get more views. Even one smash single can boost all of your other videos with millions and millions of views.

My mom who is invested in Pop culture a lot more than the average person in eastern Europe has no idea who Meghan Trainor or Ariana Grande are (even tho I have played her songs of them, if I mention them she wouldn't know who they are) and u have the nerve to say they are more global BYEEEEEEEEE
