Wesley's Theory is a great stand-alone song. I think some of the songs try to do a little too much, I like the subtlety of WT more and like how the samples do just as much talking as Kendrick does.

92: Meow The Jewels - CREOWN (Alchemist remix)




The best remix off Run The Jewels's remix album of Run The Jewels 2. The remix album uses cat noises to bring the original album's songs to utter purrfection. The Meow Mix of CREOWN is just the cat's meow, it's groovy, and it'll claw it's way into your head and just get stuck there. It takes the original's lyrics about blindly following military rule and flips it. The song lands on it's feet, and rides along an army of cat meows that carry the song along.

91: Towkio (feat. Chance The Rapper) - Clean Up




Another Towkio cut. Unlike the Donnie Trumpet featuring Free Your Mind, this Chance The Rapper featuring cut is less dancier, sounding like what The College Dropout Era Kanye might sound like if he was produced by Rustie. Clean Up is soulful, yet is backed up by turbo-charged bursts of synth, that help it take-off. It's bright eyed and Chance sounds happy to be there, even ending the song with "Ay yo, why you about to have the hottest tape of 2015? It's stupid / This song is already so hot, I'm actually just glad you let me rap on that bitch" and it shows.

90: Millencolin - Autopilot Mode


You know that feeling when you just have so much annoying things to do that you just kind of mentally check out until it (hopefully) gets done? Autopilot Mode is kind of that song that will snap you back into real life. Short but sweet at a punky 2 minutes, it's catchy as can be and rocks surprisingly hard for a song by a veteran Swedish pop-punk group. Maybe it's the Southern Californian in me (pop-punk is pretty much what everybody is raised on down here), but this song felt so nice in 2015, a time when nobody else was really doing this kind of thing anymore. It was also a nice reminder to stop slacking on things.

89: Viet Cong - Newspaper Spoons



I feel like VIet Cong's self-titled album came out way too early in the year, and it was unfairly overshadowed by all the pretty stellar albums that were released this year. Newspaper Spoons is the brutal opener to the album, it immediately drops you into the bleakness of the album, hitting you with pounding drums and some pretty confrontational lyrics about mortality and how we tune out everything. It's a pretty powerful track.

88: MNDR - Kimono



Sometime about MNDR is just so cool. Maybe it's Amanda Warner's iciness, and how she deliver's Kimono's lyrics in such an icy confrontational way is a synthpop song, maybe it's the throbbing synth work that backs her up. I don't know, but this song just has an effortless coolness to it. .

87: Andrew Combs - Suwannee County




This was the year I got back into singer-songwriter music. Suwannee County is one of those songs that you can really listen to anytime and get lost in. It's delicately strummed country-accented folk music that hits that nostalgic romantic vibe that the best folk does. It's endlessly listenable

86: Bonnie McKee - Bombastic




From out of the country and into the gym. Bombastic hits hard and quickly overwhelms in the best possible way. Bonnie McKee takes the best of 80s pop music, and concentrates it into a pop neutron bomb. The song hits like some of Sleigh Bells' best, but still has the best sense of humor. It's one of the funnest songs of the year and the video really is one of man's greatest achievements .

85: Jeremih (feat. J. Cole) - Planez


At this point, I'm convinced Jeremih hates success and wants nothing to do with it. He never quite got it together to release a video for his biggest hit, never promoted it, and surprise-released his album long after he should have. It would be frustrating if he didn't have such great singles. Planes succeeds on near-empty space and a certain sexy restraint that is hard to capture on a song. He waits to reveal the lyrics as long as possible to have you hanging on waiting to hear what he's going to sing next. Really, the song is only grounded by the King of awful guest verses, J. Cole

84: Travi$ Scott (feat. Kanye West) - Piss On Your Grave



Like pretty much all of Travi$ Scott's music, I didn't think much of this one at first. Then one day walking to class, it hit me. I found myself singing "piss on your grave, piss on your grave, piss on your GrAve" and have been hooked since. It's like Travi$ found exactly what worked with Yeezus and turned that into a psychedelic slow burn. It's short, but so satisfying. This song also kind of shows that Kanye has been the most influential person in music in quite some time.

83: Punch Brothers - Julep



Definitely the classiest song on this list. Maybe a strange inclusion here, but the parent album hit me hard, starting with this song. The song imagines heaven as nothing but a julep on the porch. What could be better?.

82:Mark Ronson (feat. Bruno Mars) - Uptown Funk!



This was the year's biggest hit and deservedly so. It's hooky as can be even without a proper chorus, and that beat is undeniable. It's fun and extroverted in a way that few songs were this year (or ever have been). You also have to love those brags. "Smoother than a fresh jar of Skippy!"

Didn't realize MDNR had a song out this year. Your description of it is really accurate, but I don't seem to love the song or anything. The Bonnie song is good too and I've finally listened to the EP. I was kinda drawn away after that American something song.

Andrew Combs and Punch Brothers both sound nice! I especially liked the Punch Brothers song. And Uptown Funk aw yeah You're so right at it being such an extroverted song. I think the fact that everyone likes it so much actually made everyone a little more outgoing.
