The sound Pharrell has been smashing with for the past two years, and a lot of people have hopped on, even Ariana, is what Bey was doing on B'Day which in it's time was seen as a commercial failure since the industry was heading towards more of an electronic, dance based sound at the time.
Then people almost a decade later are smashing with songs that sound like they could have been rejects from the album? She
is ahead of the game, and her decade-old work is still influencing artists on the come up these days. Focus is proof of that.
I'm pretty objective when it comes to the hype surrounding her, and it actually annoys me a lot of the time because I feel like people become blinded by it and don't actually view her work as they should. I didn't even like Self-Titled on first listen, and that was the most hype driven time in her career ever.
