This was the first song I heard from her album, I remember being surprised, it was... so weird! Loved the footwork-influence, in it. It's nice. The video is pretty futuristic, too.
Genre: Alternative R&B, Glitch Pop, Noise Pop
Country: UK // Label: Bella Union
This is the first track on the debut album released by this guy, and honestly, if you're into either Animal Collective, FKA twigs, Autre Ne Veut, M.I.A. or Sleigh Bells - ANY OF THEM, you're going to find a lot to like here. It's dense, it's catchy, and probably one of his best songs! Vid is pretty trippy, too, but kinda boring.
Genre: Synthpop, Nu-Disco, Dance-Pop
Country: Russia // Label: Polydor
This is Shura's best song yet! The funky bassline and the cowbell get me every time, same with the catchy melodies in the hook. So fun, specially the seven-minute-long version, it's kinda M83-ish
I kind of overplayed this song back when it came out, so by the time the album was released, I was already tired of it. But it's a nice song! An obvious, pop-ified version of their sound in 'Shrines', kinda see why they chose it as the first single. Love the bridge in it too!
Genre: Psychedelic Pop, Alternative R&B, Neo-Psychedelia
Country: New Zealand // Label: Jagjaguwar
A funky little nice psychedelic song with a really catchy chorus. Kind of reminds me of the stuff Tame Impala would release later this year. It's fun.
Genre: Indie Rock, Post-Punk, Noise Rock
Country: UK // Label: Warner
I found their latest album to be a little... you know, typical, kinda safe Indie Rock, and I reaaaaaaaally miss the math-rock playfulness of 'Antidotes', but this was a nice, infectious lead single, probably the loudest from the album.
A really wonderful, atmospheric-but-super-funky track from this guy, Alan Palomo, who supposedly released one of the best electronic pop albums of 2015? OMG??!?!?!!! I'll get around to it eventually, I promise.
Genre: Indie Folk, Jangle Pop, Indie Rock
Country: Australia // Label: Mom + Pop
A really pretty, simple song with beautiful vocals from Ms. Barnett (which was kinda surprising) and some great storytelling (which really isn't). I like this a lot!
Genre: Alternative R&B, Trap, UK Bass
Country: USA // Label: Republic
I'm really (pleasantly) surprised The Weeknd got so big this year, even though I always had a love/hate-relationship with his music. Specially with this song, though, it's weird that a track as dark and aggressive as this one would get rotation, let alone become one of the biggest hits of 2015. So props to him I guess?
Genre: Nu-Disco, Electropop, Art Pop
Country: Ireland // Label: PIAS
Does a person with more class than Róisín Murphy exist? The answer is likely to be "yes", but not in the music industry, at least. This is probably the most direct-pop thing on her latest album, and yet it still sounds weird. Love her!
Oh **** this was an iconic update! Evil Eyes, The Hills, Depreston, Slumlord, White Light, Calypso I feel like our lists are a lot more in sync this year than last.
Nnn I remember seeing the album cover from the no now album. Didn't really check it out. Will probably now though.
Yas @ Purity Ring and the one song I enjoyed off Multi-Love
Foals are the guys who did Tapes right? That's the only album I know from them if so. Mainly because of Clarks Ted bibio remix I found on it. I think I tried getting into this album but didnt like it.
Yes, Moloko exists (or did)
I would hear The Hills every 5 seconds on the radio, I kid you not. Which is weird because it is kind of aggressive and loud. I like the production a lot, the song itself...
I had never heard of Clarence Clarity before coming here, and I liked the artists you compared him to, and I loved the song! Thanks for that clarity.
Push Pull is great, not my favourite on the album but one of the best tracks imo.
What Went Down slayed me after I got used to it. The album feels very raw to me, it has a lot of energy but also quiet moments which makes for a great balance.
The Hills might be my favourite Weeknd song ever, it seems to combine all his qualities and I love that.
Yeah, I see. However, even then, I feel like Kendrick is SO much better though.
No argument from me there. I recognize that TPAB is one of the best albums of the year by any stretch of the imagination. It's just not for me, really.
"What Went Down" was fine, but the followup (both as a single and on the album) was even better. Weird to say this after what I said in the previous post, but "Depreston" might be my favorite song from Courtney's album. Really well done.
Courtney, D’angelo, Dawn, ELYSIA (thank you dear god for giving this damn fantastic record some recognition), Fetty, Jenny, Jlin, Miguel, Dead Petz, Wolf Alice, and of course Vol. 1
Would you recommend that Circuit des Yeux album? Looks really interesting
