It'll probably keep changing as Streaming grows.
But 1B streams = Diamond is way too easy.
If they keep it at that then like 30 songs will be going Diamond each year soon enough.
They'll need to change the formula.

But when they did this in 2013 (first year digital sales started decreasing in comparison to the previous year) songs didn't need to be inflated the way they were. Nowadays it's obvious that digital sales are **** and a song selling 1.5m now (like WDYM) would probably be at 3m in 2012 so it would have been better to introduce a singles formula around THIS time and a much better one while they're at it.

It's because they include VEVO/YouTube streams too which is a mess.
They should just change it to On-Demand Streams (Spotify, Apple Music) only and 150 streams = 1 sale. (1500 streams = 1 album, and they presume an average album has 10 tracks).
A song getting 150M streams on Spotify (in US) would equal 1M, on top of it's sales. That's reasonable, and Streaming will continue to get much huger.
