I always imagined it as someone she just met that she REALLY connects with and she wants to say she loves them but deep down she knows its just a crush. Either way the song werqs.

Not many, but seeing as it was both a commercial (didn't even make the year-end top 40) and critical (not Grammy nominated despite featuring two iconic, acclaimed artists) failure, that's probably more other artists being cautious than it is Rihanna being ~forward-thinking.
