at some people thinking it's because we "didn't get the character we wanted to be the killer."
Honestly, I would have been FINE with Hester as the killer if the rest of the way it ended up wasn't so bad.
First of all, I get that it could have been Hester. Great, I guess. However, we were promised a "huge" "surprise" "plot twist." What? What kind of "plot twist" is that? The main character obsessed with death and creepy and stalkery is the killer? That is NOT, I repeat, NOT a plot twist. It's like...very expected. The way they presented who the killer was, was actually an okay way to do it, I thought. At least considering who it was. Like, all that was cool...until we get to the ending.
First of all, they drug the last episode out for so long, I literally thought that they were just filling time. And they filled it with ****ing lea michele (name doesn't even deserve to be capitalized at this point) rambling on about stuff that wasn't true at all. We didn't find out ANYTHING new or interesting, it was all just hester spinning lies for an hour. Then, this bitch manages to convince everyone that the Chanels are all the killers without any evidence except these actors that she obviously paid to pretend to be her parents? Like, I get it. This is supposed to be an outrageous world where anything can happen. Whatever. Okay. Then we get to the ****ing trial. The Chanels are about to be exonerated! Something logical happens! Then, Murphy has Chanel open her mouth and get them convicted. What? What kind of awesome story wrap is that? Then, the Chanels get put into an asylum. At this point, I literally thought someone was gonna burst into the asylum and be like "You guys are out, we found the real killer" or something. Like, the whole exchange with Munsch...I was totally into it. But...nothing.
In the end, we have the Chanels in this asylum (apparently loving it) for the rest of their lives, and Hester, Zayday, and Grace gallivanting around Kappa House, destroying everything that we loved about Kappa in the first place.
...what? In WHAT world is that a good ending? Ryan literally assassinated EVERYTHING about Chanel's character that we loved in the last five minutes of the show. He took away her mean personality, her awesome clothes, and all her money. Like...it's a completely different character. How could he do that? He tore down a character that he spent a whole entire season building up. He made her into a completely different person, one that none of us recognize or love.
Then, he lets ****ing Hester get away with it? And she came close to being caught so many ****ing times. SO many times. Hester is not the protagonist in this story. Neither is Grace. No matter how hard he tried, that's not who the audience was rooting for and he knows it. Chanel is CLEARLY the star of the show, the protagonist. We all wanted HER to have a happy ending and her to have an ending that made sense for her character. Nothing. The ending was anticlimactic, didn't make any sense, and left me EXTREMELY disappointed and unsatisfied. Ryan Murphy does this thing where he tries so hard to be "edgy" or have a "different" ending that he completely destroys all of the rules and conventions he's built up over a whole season and ends up really really letting down his fans. This project could have been SOOO good if he had just let it.
The ending honestly seemed super rushed and like they thought of it very last minute. Brad even said Emma got the script hours before her scene and memorized it all. It's just ******, horrible, tacky, disappointing, BAD writing. If there was a season 2, I don't know if I would even watch it because of how horrible the ending to this one was. How can they climb out of that? I just...ugh. Ryan Murphy, you're such a ****ing letdown and I don't know why I expected ANYTHING different. Just so sad and disappointed at this ending. It's awful.
EDIT: Almost forgot, what was with the jumpscare at the end? Was that supposed to be like the creepy "oh maybe the red devil is not finished!!!" sort of thing? That ALSO made no sense. Wasn't cute, wasn't clever. Just stupid rushed writing.
